How User Management Works in Kamsa

User Management controls who can log into Kamsa, which pages they can access, and what data they can view within those pages.

There are two main layers of access:

  1. Pages in Kamsa: Which parts of the platform a user can view, controlled by their Role Template.

  2. Data within those pages: The specific employee or market data a user can view, controlled by their Data Access permissions.

For example, a Role Template may give a user access to the Employee Data page. Their Data Access permissions then determine which employees and information they can view on that page.

Quick Recap

  • Role Templates control the pages a user can access.

  • Data Permissions control the information they can view within those pages.

  • Manage these settings under User Management → Users or Role Templates.

Manage Users

Under User Management → Users, you can manage individual users and their access to Kamsa.

From here you can:

  • Add Users: Invite employees, comp reviewers, recruiters, or external consultants.

  • Edit Users: Update a user’s role, email, or data access permissions.

  • Deactivate Users: Temporarily revoke access (e.g., when someone goes on leave).

  • Delete Users: Permanently remove access.

  • Request External Users: Ask Kamsa to approve access for non-employees (like consultants).

Add a User

  1. Go to User Management → Users → Add User.

  2. Enter the user’s name and email.

  3. Select a Role Template, which determines their page access.

  4. Define their Employee Data Access and/or Global Market Data Access.

  5. Click Submit. The user will receive an email inviting them to set up their account.

Edit a User

  • Go to User Management → Users.

  • Click the three dots next to their name → Edit.

  • Update their role or data permissions → Submit.

Deactivate a User

  • Toggle their status off in User Management → Users.
    OR

  • In Employee Data, change their Employment Status to Terminated.

Delete a User

  • Go to User Management → Users.

  • Three dots → Delete → Confirm.

Request an External User

  • Click Request a Non-Employee.

  • Enter name, email, and role.

  • Add context (what kind of access they need).

  • Submit request → Kamsa reviews and approves.

Manage Role Templates

Role Templates control which pages in Kamsa a user can see.

There are four default role templates:

Owner

An Owner is a unique role in Kamsa given to the main product owner. An Owner can add, edit and delete Admins. Admins have all the functionality of an Owner but cannot add, edit or delete other Admins. They can, however, add any other form of user with the permissions they desire.

Each client will have one Owner who we identify and must be added by Kamsa’s internal team.

Admin

Kamsa Admins can view all data and access all pages within Kamsa. They can add, edit, or delete other users but cannot add, edit, or delete Owners or other Admins.

Standard User

By default, Standard Users can view only the Level Descriptions in Career Paths. Setting up someone as a Standard User is a great way to get a user into Kamsa if you’re unsure of what permissions you’d like them to have.

Comp Reviewer

Comp Reviewer is a unique template that gives a user the ability to access those who have been assigned to them in the event of a company compensation review. This is only necessary for clients who have purchased the Plus package.

Custom Role Templates

You can create roles tailored to your needs:

  1. Go to User Management → Role Templates.

  2. Click + New Role Template or edit an existing one.

  3. Choose which pages the role can view or edit.

  4. Add a clear name and description → Submit.

Editing an Existing Role Template

  1. To edit a Role, go to User Management and click on Role Templates.

  2. Click on the three dots next to the Role name, and click Edit (you may have to scroll to the right).

  3. Make the desired changes to the role and when you're done, click Continue.

  4. If needed, edit the Role Name and description. When you're done, click Submit Changes.

Assigning Data Permissions

After selecting a Role Template, you must also define what data the user can see.

Employee Data Access

(Required when a role includes pages with employee data, like Company Ranges or Employee Data)

Options:

  • See all data – Full visibility, including salaries and ranges.

  • See all except People & Executives – Excludes HR/People team roles and executive pay.

  • See only their reporting structure – Limited to the user’s team/org below their level.

  • See only under selected managers – Limit visibility to employees reporting to chosen managers (useful for HRBPs or recruiters).

Global Market Data Access

(Required when a role includes Global Market Data or Open Jobs)

You can control visibility by:

  • Job Families – Select which Kamsa Job Families they can view.

  • Market Data Cuts – Choose which geographic or market datasets they can access.

  • Job Levels – Limit access to specific levels (e.g., IC1–IC4 only).
